Day 99 The first of the month and last of the week

Coming home photoless what should I see as I pulled into the carport was this kookaburra in the backyard waiting for me to take its photo! Seen also in the background is a huge pile of bark and sticks gathered from around our property and waiting to be burnt.

  1. A beautiful photo, and an obliging kookaburra.

  2. Most obliging indeed - certainly seemed he was waiting for me, he flew off soon after I took the pic but he posed for a few - this one is the best of 3.

  3. I don't think I've ever seen a photo of a kookaburra (though I sang about them many times). Love the way it's head pokes out on one side of the stump and his tail the other.

  4. I'm glad you liked my photo Susan. We are so used to kookaburras now but when we first moved into our bushy area about 30 years ago, they used to wake us with their raucous laughter in the early hours of the morning. Are there any uniquely Canadian birds?
